Runner is a story based in 1919 ,a young boy (Charlie) struggles to support his family after the sad painful death of his father. Now it is Charlies duty to support his family and help them through the hard times, this means that Charlie has to step away from his childhood. Throughout the story Charlie works for a gangster named Squizzy Taylor, and makes new friends and rivals.Near the end of the novel Charlie participates in the Ballarat mile and wins a large amount of money, which enabled him to donate his money to his friends and family and buy a shop for himself and his best friend Nostrils.
Overall "Runner By Robert Newton" is a good novel for ages 12 and up.
